Jiu-Jitsu

What is Jiu-Jitsu?
Jiu-Jitsu is a traditional Japanese martial art used for self-defence.
The literal translation of Jiu-Jitsu to English means “the gentle art.” It could also be interpreted as “winning by giving in.” The main elements of Jiu-Jitsu are punches, kicks, throws and levers. Jiu-Jitsu has two goals: 1) effective self-defence, and 2) to live in harmony with oneself and one’s environment.

The history of Jiu-Jitsu:
The origins of Jiu-Jitsu are unknown, although it began in Japan and became very popular there. During the 18th century many different styles were united under the name Jiu-Jitsu. Around 1900, with European sailors travelling to Japan and Japanese visitors travelling to Europe, the practice of Jiu-Jitsu began to spread. Today, jiu-jitsu is known around the globe as one of the most popular martial arts.
